Grand Valley State had five athletes record NCAA Provisional Qualifying times at the Butler Twilight Meet. Two Laker men tallied qualifying marks at the Northwood Open. GVSU will compete at the 2004 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 6 and Friday, May 7 hosted by Hillsdale College.

On the women's side, Steph Kuhlman recorded a qualifying time of 2:09.14, finishing in the 800, while Natalie Ewing placed third in the 3,000 with a time of 10:01.39. Jennifer O'Shesky took second in the 400 meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 1:02.64 and Rachel Duthler won the pole vault with a mark of 11-07.25.

For the men, Kenny Coleman won the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.38. John Ybarra won the shot put with a qualifying throw of 54-10.75, while Ian Morrison finished first in the discus throw with a mark of 162-09.00.

"This weekend was a great step for us in quest of two GLIAC team titles this week," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We were very pleased on how our student-athletes competed within the incliment weather down in Indianapolis."

"Now we need to put some finishing touches on our training and be focused to compete at Hillsdale on Thursday and Friday," Baltes added.
