Hillsdale, Mich. - Grand Valley State set two school records and qualified 10 for the NCAA Division II National Championships at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays last Friday and Saturday. The Lakers will next be in action Thursday (May 4) and Friday (May 5) at the GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Big Rapids, Mich.
Mike Stowe set a school record, won a GLIAC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the Decathalon. Stowe tallied a 10-event, two-day total of 6,590 points, outdistancing second place by 444 points. Stowe is the first-ever Laker to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the decathalon. Kevin Kimple also established a school record in the javelin with a toss of 190-08. Grant Fall and Ryan Holm reached the NCAA mark in the 5000m run. Fall crossed in 14:39.31, while Holm finished in 14:47.65. Nate Peck finished eighth and qualified with a time of 31:01.62. Danny Jackson crossed the finish line in second place, but blazed a time of 14.50 to meet the NCAA standard. Garron Lucius was fifth (14.89). Robbie Young and Chris Hammer both reached the qualifying mark in the 3000m steeplechase. Young finished 11th in a time of 9:16.91, while Hammer crossed 13th (9:18.07). The GVSU 4x400m relay team of Kenny Coleman, Joe LeFevre, Garron Lucius and Kris Olgesbee finished first with an NCAA qualifying mark of 3:13.94. In the field events, Josh Harris (Discus) and Casey Fechter (Hammer) both notched NCAA throws. Harris finished third with a toss of 165-09, while Fechter was fourth with a throw of 185-03.

Garron Lucius finished sixth in the 200 (22.05), while Jake Hendrickson was seventh (22.17). Kenny Coleman placed fifth in the 400 (48.45), Kris Olgesbee was eighth (48.75) and Mackenzie Lucius was ninth (48.81). Bryan Boeve finished sixth in the 800 (1:53.27), while Joe LeFevre was eighth in the 400 hurdles (54.43). Scott Levering tied for fourth in the pole vault (15-5) and Bryan Dovichi was eighth in the triple jump (45-9.25). Nick Natale finished seventh in the shot put (50-03.50).
