Grand Valley State competed in the Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale College over the weekend. The Lakers will compete at the GLIAC Championships in Midland, Mich. Thursday, May 3 - Saturday, May 5. The women are looking to win their eighth straight conference title, while the men are seeking their fifth.
On the women's side, Candice Wheat placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles as she ran a time of 14.59 and Kirsten Nozime took sixth place in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.69). Katherine McCarthy finished in ninth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.01. The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Katie Mandziara, McCarthy, Micaela Mayer, and Ashley Jager took third place with an NCAA qualifying time of 3:51.55.
Rachel Duthler won the pole vault with an NCAA qualifying jump of 12-11.50, while Lindsey Jones tied for second place with an NCAA qualifying mark of 12-05.50. Christi Kettlehut took seventh place with a jump of 11-11.75. Jennifer O'Shesky placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 18-00.50. Stephanie Kurcab finished in sixth place in the triple jump, posting a mark of 37-06.00, while Amber Pearsall placed ninth (35-11.25). Emily Fox took fourth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 170-04, while Mary Bogner recorded an NCAA qualifying throw of 124-06 in the javelin for a third place finish.

On the men's side, Garron Lucius won the 110 meter hurdles, posting a winning time of 14.70, while Joey Latz took 10th place (15.36). Joe LeFevre placed third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.83, Bill Makela took fifth (54.17), and Peter Antor finished in sixth place with a time of 54.84. Jake Hendrickson placed seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.19, while Justin Wiles also took seventh place with a time of 49.18 in the 400 meter dash.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Chris Hammer finished second with an NCAA qualifying time of 9:04.88, while Robbie Young placed fifth, recording an NCAA qualifying time of 9:06.31. The 4x400 relay team of Josh Pahl, Troy Rock, Justin Wiles, and Antor ran a time of 3:17.61, which was good for a second place finish.
Nate Miller won the high jump with a winning score of 6-10.75, while Scott Levering tied for third place in the pole vault with an NCAA qualifying mark of 15-11.00. Robert Metellus finished in fourth place with a mark of 44-02.50, while Ahmed Mahr took seventh place in the discus with a throw of 160-10. Casey Fechter placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 189-01 and Nick Natale took ninth (179-01). Natale placed 10th in the shot put with a throw of 50-00.75.
In the mile run dream mile, Nate Peck finished third with a time of 4:08.43.
The GLIAC teams competed in the men's decathlon this weekend, which will count toward the GLIAC Championship title. On the men's side, Mike Stowe won the crown with 6658 points, while Joey Latz finished in second place with 5703 points. For the women, Ali Beach placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3877 points.
