Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State competed in the Hillsdale Gina Relays, in one of the largest outdoor track meets in the Midwest. The Lakers had several notable finishers including Joe LeFevre in the long jump. LeFerve broke the school record with a leap of 23'4.5", breaking the Brandon Womacks old mark from 2001 by almost three inches. The jump was good for third place out of the 32 competitors in the event. Ryan Tibble took second place in the high jump as he cleared 6'9.75", which qualifies him for NCAA Nationals.
Other notable Laker finishes at the meet include the 4 x 400 relay squad of Jordan Lake, Justin Adamec, Pat Garrett, and Kenny Coleman who won the event in a time of 3:16.01. Those four placed ninth through 12th, respectively in the 400 as individuals as well. Ben Hirdes placed second in the pole vault with a height of 16' and Kirk Manchip finished sixth in the triple jump at 13.86 meters.
The Lakers will compete in the GLIAC Championships next weekend (May 2-3) at Saginaw Valley State. GVSU will look to regain the outdoor title after placing second a year ago.
