Grand Valley State's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a record-breaking weekend at the Hillsdale Invitational. GVSU had four individuals, plus a relay team set NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks, while two relay teams set school records.
On the women's side, Pam Treppa tied for ninth place in the long jump, recording a qualifying mark of 5.72m, while Alex Baker qualified in the 400 hurdles as she took fifth place with a time of 63.25. Natalie Ewing ran a 17:18.81 for a seventh place finish in the 5,000 to qualify and the 4x400 relay team won with a time of 3:51.40.
The women's 4x800 relay team of Nicole Daggy, Krista O'Dell, Brandi Murrell, and Steph Kulhman, set a meet and school record, finishing first with a time of 9:06.52. The men's 4x800 relay team of Nic Gatlin, John Collins, Harley Rohloff, and Bryan Boeve also set a school record with a time of 7:44.01.
Mike Stowe set a school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.33. The previous record was held by Pat Garrett set in 2001 with a time of 53.44. The time also was a NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark for Stowe.
Kirk Manchip also set a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 47-6.5.
"This was a great meet for us to help prepare for the GLIAC Championships in two weeks, which will be back at Hillsdale," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We have less than two weeks to get a little better and stay focused on competing to win two more GLIAC Championship titles."
