Results

Grand Valley State's men's track and field team won the Jack Shaw Classic hosted by Western Michigan on Saturday. The Lakers tallied 174 points, while Hillsdale took second with 88 points and Hope College finished third with 69 points. The Lakers will compete at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Thursday-Saturday of this week.

Junior Kevin Kimpel won the javelin throw, breaking his own school record with a mark of 56.11m. Freshman Bryant Wilson tallied an NCAA Qualifying mark of 4.95m to take first place in the pole vault, while senior Josh Harris won the discus with a throw of 48.02m. In the shot put, junior Nick Natale took first with a qualifying throw of 52'9.75.

Freshman Tim Dalton won the 3000 meter run in a time of 9:09.50 and sophomore John Collins took first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:011.00. The Lakers took the top four places in the 110 meter hurdles with sophomore Dan Jackson winning in a time of 14.74. Sophomore Garron Lucius took second, running a 14.84, senior Joe LeFevre ran a 15.24 for third place and junior Mike Stowe placed fourth (15.44).

Sophomore Josh Pahl won the 400 meter run (50.07), Garron Lucius placed first in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.74, and freshman Mike Bigney took first in the 800 meter run (2:00.71). Senior Kenny Coleman ran a 22.08 to win the 200 meter dash and freshman Mackenzie Lucius won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 55.92.
 

 

"This was a good opportunity for us to race some off events and work some kinks out for the remainder of the season," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We have some work to get done next week prior to the GLIAC Championships the following week at Ferris State."
