Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won six different events over the weekend and Nick Hoeve hit the NCAA qualifying mark in the hammer throw. GVSU had athletes competing at several different meets including the Eastern Michigan Invitational, Indy Relays which were hosted by Butler University, and the Saginaw Valley State Invitational. Hoeve tossed a throw of 177'11 in Saginaw to qualify and take third place.
Most of the Lakers competed in Indianapolis, where they posted 11 top three finishes. Dave Siik took first in the 800 with a time of 1:52.86 and Joe Woije placed third in the event in 1:54.98. The 4 x 400 relay squad posted a first place time of 3:16.22, while the 4 x 100 was second in 41.85. Ryan Tibble won the high jump with a height of 6'8" and Kirk Manchip placed third with a jump of 6'6". The two also finished second in third in the triple jump, with Manchip edging Tibble with a 13.87 mark to 13.13 meters. Kenny Coleman and Joe LeFevre took second and third, respectively, in the long jump with distances of 6.76m and 6.75m. Jeff Vyain finished third in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:59.00.
Ben Hirdes won his fifth pole vault competition of the outdoor season at Eastern Michigan with a height of 16'6.75".
GVSU will compete at the Gina Relays this Saturday, April 25, in Hillsdale, Mich.
