Results

Grand Valley State's men's and women's track and field teams recorded strong performances at the Ferris State Invitational on Thursday. The Lakers will compete at the Cougar Classic hosted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Saturday, April 10.

For the men, Harley Rohloff won the 800 meter dash (1:57.60), Jerry Wallace took second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.50, and Juan Villarreal placed second in the 400 meter hurdles (59.10). Mike Stowe finished in second place in he 110 meter hurdles (15.40) and also placed second in the javelin throw with a score of 42.35m. Kirk Manchip won both the high jump (6-06-00) and the long jump (21-09.00). Joe Prouix finished first in the shot put with a throw of 15.60m, while Nick Natalie finished second (15.48m), Ian Morrison wrapped up the men's field events by finishing in first palce in the discus with a throw of 46.29m.

On the women's side, Alex Baker won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.40, while Julie Martin took first in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:54.70). Erica Helmila finished in third place (15.40) in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth place with a time of 59.50 in the 400 meter dash. In the field events, Pam Treppa won the triple jump, recording a score of 34-01.00, Leanna Lowe place second in the high jump with a jump of 4-10.00, and Rachel Duthler took second in the pole vault (11-06.00). Heather Sawdy finished in second place in the hammer throw, tallying a throw of 39.88m and Lindsay Jacob also took second in the javelin throw (27.90).
