Results

Grand Valley State competed at the Grand Rapids Open at Houseman Field on Saturday and turned in a solid performance. The Lakers will next split their squad and send part of the team to the Cougar Classic on April 7 in Edwardsville, Ill. at 10:00 a.m. and also to the Bulldog Invite in Big Rapids, Mich. at 11:00 a.m.

Garron Lucius won the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.64. Joe LeFevre finished in seventh place with a time of 23.17 and Ed Brown ran a time of 23.20 for an eighth place finish. John Collins won the 1500 meter run posting a winning time of 4:01.37, while Pat Sage finished in second place as he ran a 4:01.67. Derek Marr ran a time of 4:05.46, which was good for a fifth place finish.

The men's 4x100 relay team won with a time of 42.32 and the 4x400 relay team also captured a first place finish with a winning time of 3:19.33.

In the field events, Nate Miller won the high jump with a mark of 6-11.75, while Mitch VanPortfleet took first in the long jump with a mark of 20-08.50. Mike Stowe placed fifth with a jump of 19-07.00.

Three Lakers placed in the top four spots in the shot put. Nick Natale won the event with a toss of 53-01.75. Mitch Bosch finished in third place with a mark of 42-07.50, while Ian Evans finished in fourth place (41-07.25). Ahmed Mahr won the discus with a toss of 158-02, while Natale placed second with a throw of 150-02. Kevin Kimpel took third place, throwing a mark of 149-08 and Nate Grabowski finished in fourth place with a mark of 147-11.

 

 

Casey Fechter won the hammer throw, posting a mark of 197-06. Natale finished third with a mark of 185-10, while Charles Smith placed fourth (183-08). Mahr recorded a toss of 168-08, which was good for a sixth place finish.

In the javelin, Kimpel placed second with a mark of 176-08 and Stowe finished fourth as he recorded a throw of 166-05. Evans finished in seventh place, tallying a mark of 146-05.
