Grand Valley State's men's track and field team won its sixth consecutive Indoor Track and Field title Saturday. The meet was hosted at Saginaw Valley State University. The Laker men dominated the meet, winning by a 78.5 margin. GVSU tallied 192 points, while Ashland finished in second place with 113.5.
Kirk Manchip earned Men's Field Athlete of the Meet honors, while Nate Peck was named Men's Freshman of the Year. Head coach Jerry Baltes earned his fifth Men's GLIAC Coach of the Year honors in six years.
Junior Kenny Coleman captured the GLIAC title in the 400 meter dash with a NCAA Provisional time of 48.52, while freshman Kris Olgesbee finished in second place (49.98). Freshman Nate Peck placed second in the 1 mile run with a NCAA Provisional time of 4:10.59, while freshman Joel Kirsch took seventh (4:18.67) and sophomore Ryan Holm finished eighth (4:19.61). Sophomore John Collins finished in second place in the 800 meter run (1:55.76) and sophomore Bryan Boeve placed fourth (1:56.64). Senior Don Wilkins claimed the GLIAC title in the 3,000 meter run, recording a Fieldhouse record time of 8:30.89. Freshman Tim Kenny finished sixth in a time of 8:35.94, freshman Grant Fall took eighth (8:41.74), and freshman Robbie Young placed ninth (8:43.44). The Lakers had freshman Dan Jackson placed third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.73, while freshman Garron Lucius and junior Joe LeFevre both tied for fourth place, running a 7.82. The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Coleman, Olgesbee, freshman Josh Pahl, and freshman Brian Cermak finished in second place with a time of 3:21.40.

"We had a lot of athletes on the men's side step up and contribute to this GLIAC title," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "Many individuals improved and recorded NCAA Provisional marks, which was one of our goals coming into the meet."
