Grand Valley State had a solid weekend of preparation before the GLIAC Championships as the Lakers played host to the Grand Rapids Championships on Friday at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU will take part in the GLIAC Championships at Saginaw Valley State on Friday, Feb. 25 at 4:00 p.m.

The men's distance medley relay team improved on their school record and national standing by running a time of 10:01.64.

On the women's side, Rachel Duthler broke the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 12-7-.50. The previous record was set last weekend by Lindsey Jones (12-01.75). Both Duthler and Jones are ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Four other individuals recorded national qualifying marks on the women's side. April Szatskowski posted a 7.21 in the 55 meter dash, while Mandi Zemba tallied a 2:12.97 in the 800 meter. Bethany Hecksel recorded a mark of 11-7.75 in the pole vault and Morgan Arce improved on her own school record in the weight throw with a 58-00.50. The 4x400 relay team of Ashley Thomas, Jennifer O'Shesky, Katie Mandziara, and Kristen Kulczycki bettered their time with 3:54.64.

"We now need to prepare mentally and stay focused going into the GLIAC Championships this week at Saginaw Valley," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We have a great opportunity to keep our streak of championships going."
