Allendale, Mich.-- Six Lakers qualified for Nationals as Grand Valley claimed four first place finishes at the DII Challenge at Saginaw Valley State on February 8. GVSU also set 2 new school records in the 5K and 4x400 meter relay.
Pat Garrett earned a second place finish and qualified for Nationals in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.43. Grand Valley took first and third in the 800 meter run with Dave Siik claiming the top spot (1:55.89) and Joe Wojie finishing third with a time of 1:56.29.
The Laker relay team of Kenny Coleman, Jordan Lake, Dave Siik, and Pat Garrett qualified for Nationals in the 4x400 meter relay, finishing second with a school record of 3:18.21. Kirk Manchip also qualified for the National meet, with a first place finish of 6'08.5" in the high jump. Manchip claimed second place in the triple jump as well, with a jump of 45'8.25".
Brian Beach claimed the top spot in the pole vault posting a mark of 14'06". Second place in the long jump was claimed by GVSU's Joe LeFevre, who finished with a jump of 22'06.5". Grand Valley claimed four of the top five spots in the shot put with Romelle Taylor leading the Lakers with a mark of 52'02.5". Joe Proulx finished second (51'0"), Ian Morrison was third (49'08.5"), and Mike Simon claimed the fifth spot (48'07") for the Lakers. Two Lakers qualified for Nationals in the weight throw with Nick Hoeve winning the event with a throw of 59'6.5". Romelle Taylor earned the other spot for GVSU with a fourth place finish of 55'0".
