Lakers Post 13 Top-Five Finishes At Smith Barney

Results

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State posted 13 top-five finishes against several NCAA DI schools at the Smith Barney Invitational hosted by Butler University in Indianapolis. Pat Garrett and Kirk Manchip placed in the top five in two different events, while Nick Hoeve hit the NCAA qualifying mark in the weight throw. Hoeve placed third in the event with a toss of 16.72 meters.

Garrett's first event was 200 meters where he finished third with a time of 22.34, and followed that with a fourth place finish in the 400 (49.51). Manchip tied for second with fellow Laker Ryan Tibble in the high jump as they hit at 1.98 meters. Kirk also finished in fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.24 meters.

Romelle Taylor and Ian Morrison placed second and third, respectivley, in the shot put. Taylor threw 15.45m while Morrison went for 15.15m. The Lakers took third and fourth places in the long jump. Joe LeFevre jumped 6.91m to finish third while Kenny Coleman placed fourth with a distance of 6.81m. Dave Siik was fourth in the 800 at 1:56.56 and Tim Nichols finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:22.32.

GVSU will compete at the DII Challenge this Saturday (Feb. 8) at Saginaw Valley State University.
