UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Todd Schuster became the sixth Laker to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships when he ran the 800-meter in 1:53.84 at the Collegiate Open at Saginaw Valley State University. Nate Miller also bettered his qualifying mark with a meet record of 2.08 meters in the high jump.
Xavier Parnell picked up a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 22.57 seconds. Troy Rock added a second-place finish of his own, crossing the finish line in 50.72 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Schuster's qualifying time in the 800-meter was good enough for first place, as well.
Joey Latz picked up a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash, crossing the tape in 8.69 seconds. Bill Makela and Ryan Brown finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the same event. Miller's high jump of 2.08 meters won first place in the event, beating out two other jumpers who cleared the same heighth.
Quinton Dennis cleared 4.70 meters in the pole vault to claim a second-place finish and Latz was right behind him in third place, clearing 4.55 meters. Ryan Rademacher jumped 6.82 meters in the long jump to take second place and Nathaniel Smith went 13.98 meters in the triple jump to win the event.
Aleksas Abromavicius and Matt Armstrong finished first and second in the shot put. Abromavicius threw 16.92 meters while Armstrong threw 15.58 meters.
