The Grand Valley State men's track & field team turned in some outstanding performances at Michigan and Saginaw Valley State over the past weekend in unscored meets. At Michigan, Justin Adamec finished second in the 200 (22.53) and the 400 (49.86), while Kenny Coleman was third in the long jump (22-5.25) and fourth the 400 (50.28). Senior all-american Ben Hirdes was second in the pole vault (15-7.25) and Mike Simon tallied a provisional NCAA DII Championship mark of 55-8.50 in the weight throw with a second place performance.
Jimmie Freeman placed fourth in the long jump (22-4.5), while Nick Natale was fourth in the shot put with a provisional mark of 53-5.75. Joe LeFevre finished second in the 60 hurdles (8.26), while Boomer Hoppough was fourth (8.46). Blake Terhune recorded a fifth place finish in the mile (4:22.27). At Saginaw Valley State, Scott Rant placed first in the pole vault (15-0), while Kirk Manchip was second in the long jump (22-2) and triple jump (45-4), and fifth in thehigh jump (6-4). John Ybarra tallied an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put with a throw of 54-1.
The Lakers will travel to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Invite on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11:00 a.m.
