Grand Valley State tallied 10 NCAA qualifying marks as it hosted the Bob Eubanks Open on Friday night. The Lakers will travel to the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Jan. 26.
On the men's side, four Lakers recorded NCAA qualifying marks. Sophomore Bryant Wilson won the pole vault with a 16-02.0 and senior Nick Natale placed first in the shot put with a qualifying throw of 52-08.2. Senior Charles Smith won the weight throw with a toss of 59-09.5 and senior Casey Fechter placed second with a qualifying mark of 56-05.7.
Junior Garron Lucius took second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.58, while freshman Troy Rock placed second in the 200 meter dash (23.25). Sophomore Peter Antor won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.82, senior John Collins placed first in the 600 meter run (1:23.08), and junior Mike Stowe ran a time of 8.00 to win the 55 meter hurdles. Stowe also won the high jump with a mark of 6-00.5. Freshman Mitch VanPortfleet placed first in the long jump with a mark of 21-04.2.
On the women's side, six Lakers posted NCAA qualifying marks. Freshman Maegan Doyen won the high jump with a qualifying jump of 5-06.0. In the pole vault, the top three finishers tallied qualifying marks. Sophomore Diana Noonan won the event with a jump of 12-02.0, senior Rachel Duthler took second (11-08.0), and sophomore Kellie Kieren placed third, jumping 11-08.0. Sophomore Emily Fox won the weight throw (54-04.0) and junior Kathie Posa took second with a throw of 52-05.5.

"This was a great step forward for us," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We had some very nice improvements and a handful of NCAA qualifying marks."
"We still have a long way to go, but I am confident we can get there by the end of the semester," Baltes added.
