Final Stats

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State University started 2008 strong, garnering seven first-place finishes at the Mike Lints Laker Challenge. Garron Lucius highlighted the team's performance by provisionally qualifying for the NCAA meet with a time of 7.67 in the 55-meter hurdles. He took first place in the event. The Lakers will stay in Allendale for their next meet, the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open next Friday at 4 p.m.

Robert Metellus also provisionally qualified for the NCAAs, winning the triple jump with a distance of 14.42 meters. Other first-place finishers for Grand Valley State included Michael Palombo, who won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.90 seconds, and Todd Schuster, who crossed the line first in the mile at 4:22.89.

Nate Peck's bid to set the GVSU Fieldhouse record in the 3000-meter run came up just short. Peck won the event with a time of 8:17.30, but the previous record of 8:16.40 remains unbroken for now. Grand Valley's "A" and "B" teams in the 1600-meter relay put on a good show, with the "A" team winning by one-tenth of a second, 3:27.66 to 3:27.76.

In field events, Nate Miller took first in the high jump, clearing 2.02 meters.
