The GVSU women's tennis team is ranked 31st in the nation and third in the Great Lakes Region after the Fall rankings were announced, while the men's team earned a fourth place regional ranking. The Laker women's team finds itself behind perennial powers Northwood (#1) and Drury (#2) and finished its fall season with an 11-2 record, with both losses coming at the hands of Northwood.
The Lakers had one member ranked in the top 15 of singles and two doubles teams were placed in the top 10. Senior Jenna Killips earned her #10 regional ranking by going 10-6 in the No. 1 singles slot this season. The tandem of Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte received a #5 ranking for their play in doubles. The duo put together an impressive 13-6 record in No. 1 doubles position. Killips and Emily Zellner snuck into the poll, receiving a #10 ranking. The team had a great season in No. 2 doubles, compiling a 14-3 record, including a 7-1 GLIAC mark.
The men's team also received some healthy rankings, receiving a No. 4 regional mark. In addition, two Lakers were placed in the top 15 while two doubles teams earned recognition in the top 10. This marks the most rankings the Lakers have ever received following the fall release. Men's tennis will begin its official season in March.
GVSU finds itself behind Northwood (#1), Drury (#2), and Ferris State (#3) in the Great Lakes Region. Sophomore Tony Dang is currently in the #7 position while freshman Renato Tamashiro earned a No. 13 ranking. Dang finished his fall season with a 5-2 record while Tamashiro was 5-4 following fall play. Dang also earned a No. 7 doubles ranking with sophomore Patryk Polus. Tamashiro earned recognition with Patrick Troy, as the tandem was ranked in the No. 8 position.
