Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team dominated play as the host of the Grand Valley Invitational this past weekend. The Lakers won both the A and B flights as they competed in a doubles only bracket style tournament. GVSU will be traveling to Lewis University to compete in the Lewis Invitational Oct. 10.
Tony Dang and Marc Roesslein took home the Flight A Doubles Championship. They teamed up to beat Eldridge/Rescorla (Calvin) 8-3 in the opening round. In the semifinals they squared off against teammates Ryan Diebold and Jeff Globerson, who won their 1st round match over Carter/Malloy (GRCC) 8-0. Dang/Roesslein beat Diebold/Globerson 8-4. This then matched them up against fellow Lakers, Phillip Claus and Brock Plangger, who also made their way to the championship match. Claus/Plangger defeated DeMaagd/Goorhouse (Calvin) 8-3 in the 1st round. Claus/Plangger then beat DeVlieger/DeVlieger (Calvin) 8-4 in the semifinals.
In the championship final Dang/Roesslein defeated their teammates Claus/Plangger 8-4. In the 3rd place match of the A Flight Doubles, Diebold/Globerson defeated DeVlieger/DeVlieger (Calvin) 9-7.
Pat Snyder paired up with freshman Alex Parker to win the B Flight Doubles Championship. Snyder/Parker won 8-4 in the opening round over Brower/Wright (Calvin). Snyder/Parker cruised in the semifinals over Stratz/Vandenbrug (Calvin) by a score of 8-2. In the B Flight Championship Finals it was much of the same as Snyder/Parker won convincingly over Phillips/Reinken (Calvin) 8-2.

Josh Kazdan teamed with Leon Cerdena, as they were the 3rd place winners in the B Flight Doubles. First round Kazdan/Cerdena won 8-1 over Chambers/Stedman (GRCC). Kazdan/Cerdena fell in the semifinals 8-3 to Phillips/Reniken (Calvin). In the 3rd place match, Kazdan/Cerdena defeated Stratz/Vandenbrug (Calvin) 8-1.
