ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State tennis student-athletes were honored with ITA Midwest Region postseason awards as announced by the organization on Friday.

Senior Dan Jarboe (Traverse City, Mich.) and sophomore Lexi Rice (Augusta, Mich.) earned the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award, while freshman Leah Dancz (Hudsonville, Mich.) was named the Midwest Region Rookie of the Year. Assistant Coach Adam Sandusky was also named the Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

The ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level. In August the national winners are honored during a special ceremony hosted by the USTA during Arthur Ashe Kids' Day inside Ashe Stadium. This award which dates back to 1982, goes to NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JuCo men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Each athlete now has a chance to earn national honors that will be announced on May 15.
