Full Men's Tennis Schedule

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men’s tennis team begins its championship season beginning with a match against Division I opponent Detroit on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Racquet Club.

The Lakers are seventh in the latest Midwest Region poll from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Juniors Andrew Darrell and Bryan Hodges lead GVSU as it begins its 2013 campaign. Darrell is currently ranked No. 19 in singles in the region by the ITA after going 2-3 in tournaments in the fall in the top singles spot. Hodges leads the team with four wins from the fall season.

GVSU welcomes transfers sophomores Francis Bertrand (Stony Brook) and Quinn Sylow (University of Sydney) and junior Ben Esh-Nauta (Grand Rapids CC), while also adding freshman Andrew Bole, Andrew Heuerman and Michael Kaye. Bertrand went 3-2 in fall competition, while Bole finished with a 3-3 mark in tournament play.

Grand Valley State opens the season with a trio of dual matches before playing in the Grand Rapids City Tournament. The Lakers then begin their quest for a GLIAC title, after falling in the Championship match to No. 1 Northwood.
