Jenison, Mich. - Grand Valley State hosted the 2008 GVSU Men's Invitational and the team of Tony Dang and Michael Coupek won the A Flight of doubles competition. Jeff Globerson also took home the title in the C Flight of singles competition.
In the top flight of singles competition, Dang made it to the final round before falling 6-4, 6-4 and finishing in second place. Philipp Claus fell in the first round, but rebounded with two straight wins to take the consolation championship by the score of 6-0, 6-0.
In the B flight of singles competition, Alex Switzer finished in second place after a thrilling 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 win in the semifinals. Coupek took fourth place in the flight, as well.
GVSU took both first and third place in the C Flight of singles play. Jeff Globerson won the championship by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 while his brother Matt Globerson finished third with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Josh Kazdan and Ryan Diebold took second and third place, respectively, in the D flight of singles. Kazdan defeated teammate Leon Cerdena 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals, while Diebold took third with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Dang and Coupek defeated a team from Ferris State 9-8 (8) in a championship match that went right down to the wire to take the A flight of doubles. Alex Switzer and Pat Snyder took the consolation title with an 8-2 win.
