INDANAPOLIS - Four Grand Valley State men's tennis players competed at the ITA Division II Men's Midwest Regional Championship in Indianapolis concluding on Sunday.
In singles competition, the Lakers earned first round wins, but could not get out of the Round of 32.
In Flight A singles, sophomore Francis Bertrand earned a first round-win against Rockhurst's Pawel Grzegrzolka, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Bertrand then fell in the second round to Thomas Ducret, 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Andrew Bole also earned a first round victory, defeating Melvin Joseph of Wayne State, 3-6, 6-1, 13-11. Bole then fell, 6-3, 6-3 to Michigan Tech's Pedro Rodriguez. Junior Bryan Hodges earned a 6-3, 6-1, first round win, but fell in the Round of 32 to Northwood's Jean Menard, 6-1, 6-0.
Wrapping up singles play, junior Andrew Darrell defeated Jesse Hardacre from Lewis, 6-2, 6-4, before falling in a three-set match to UIndy's Luke Hubert, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
Grand Valley State now prepares for the GVSU Invitational hosted by the Lakers at Jenison High School beginning on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 a.m.
