Grand Valley State's men's tennis team opened its season on the road with a 9-0 win over Tiffin University Friday night. The Lakers are 1-0 and will play in the Bulldog Invitational on Sept. 16-17.
Senior Adam Sandusky defeated Phil Conley, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the #1 singles slot, while freshman Tony Dang won at #2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. At #3 singles, freshman Brock Plangger beat Ryan Hodges, 6-3, 6-2, while freshman Patrick Troy blanked Ben Fletcher, 6-0, 6-0 in the #4 singles slot. Freshman Ryan Diebold won 6-0, 6-1 at #5 singles and sophomore Alex Switzer took down Richard Donaldson at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Sandusky and Troy defeated Conley and Smith, 8-3 at #1 doubles, while Dang and Plangger beat Webb and Fletcher, 8-3 at #2 doubles. In the #3 doubles slot, Switzer and freshman Matt Globerson won 8-2 over Donaldson and Hodges.
