Midland, Mich. - Grand Vally State's men's tennis team captured a 5-3 victory in the first round of the GLIAC tournament over Wayne State Friday in Midland, Mich. GVSU won two of three doubles matches and tallied three wins in singles competition. Grand Valley now faces Ferris State in the second round later today.

The duos of Kyle Dehne and Adam Sandusky along with Nirun Raju and Scott Gregory got things going for the Lakers by winning the opening doubles matches. Dehne and Sandusky won 9-8 with a 6-0 win in the tiebreaker. Raju and Gregory followed with an 8-3 win to give Grand Valley an early 2-0 lead. The Warriors picked up the final doubles win beating Mike Bambini and Jim Farmer by a slim 9-7 advantage.

Sandusky, Gregory, and Raju claimed singles victories to give Grand Valley the opening round win. Sandusky defeated Wayne State's Donavon Mitchell 7-5 and 6-2. Gregory followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory and Raju finished off Matt Fisher and the Warriors with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

Grand Valley fell in the third place match in last season's GLIAC tournament.
