Grand Valley State defeated Mercyhurst College, 6-3, in a GLIAC match in Allendale on Sunday. GVSU improves to 13-7 overall and 3-2 in GLIAC play, while Mercyhurst falls to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the GLIAC. Grand Valley was ranked #5 in the Great Lakes Region, while Mercyhurst was #4. GVSU will travel to Northwood on Tuesday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m. and conclude regular season play against Michigan Tech on Thursday, April 14 in a make-up match in Midland.
Grand Valley won five out of six matches in singles action, while Mercyhurst won two out of three in doubles play. Kyle Dehne won 6-0, 7-6(3) against John Nichols at #1 singles, Kyle Klinge defeated Mariano Fava, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 in the #2 singles slot, while Adam Sandusky beat Lee Marnik, 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(5). Nirun Raju picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jonathon Vadnal at #4 singles and Scott Gregory won 7-6(1), 7-6(5) against Lucas Kuasowski at #5 singles. Alex Switzer rounded out play at #6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Joe Defazio.
Nichols/Marnki teammed up for a 8-3 win over Dehne/Sandusky at #1 doubles and Fava/Vererka beat Raju/Mike Bambini 8-6 at #3 doubles. Klinge/Gregory picked up a 8-1 win over Defazio/Kuasowski in the #2 doubles slot.
