ORLANDO, Fla. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team dropped its final three matches of its spring break trip on Thursday and Friday. Lakers finish trip 3-3 and 8-4 on the season.
On Thursday, GVSU fell 5-4 against Coe College in its morning match, before dropping a 7-2 decision to region opponent Bellarmine in the night cap. Division I foe Presbyterian defeated the Lakers, 7-0, on Friday afternoon.
Against Coe, junior Andrew Darrell and sophomore Quinn Sylow picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Darrell then went on to defeat Riley Galbraith, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, in the No. 2 singles spot, while Sylow won 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 5 position. Freshman Andrew Bole wrapped up the wins with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the No. 4 spot.
Against Bellarmine, GVSU was able to get a win in doubles from Bole and Ben Esh-Nauta with an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 doubles spot. Darrell was the only Laker to grab a win in singles play with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win in the No. 2 singles position.
Presbyterian picked up the doubles point in Friday's match and swept through singles to win 7-0. Darrell and Sylow once again paired to earn a win in the No. 2 doubles spot, 8-6.
GVSU returns to action on March 15 against in-town rival Aquinas. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Allendale with weather pending.
