The Grand Valley State men's tennis team went two for two on Tuesday in Orlando, Fla. The Lakers began at 8:00 am by defeating Coe College 6-3 and followed it up with an impressive 9-0 win over Sacred Heart University. Grand Valley improved its record to 7-2 on the season and have two remaining matches on their Spring Break trip.
In the first match, the Lakers dropped all three doubles matchups to the Kohawks of Coe College, but bounced back and swept singles play to seal the 6-3 win. The top four singles players for GVSU, Adam Sandusky, Tony Dang, Patrick Troy, and Brock Plangger, all recorded impressive victories in straight sets. Matt Globerson and Ryan Diebold each picked up wins in the third set. Doubles play was a different story, as Coe went on to sweep GVSU. Chad Evans and Sam Zerbib recorded an 8-6 victory over Adam Sandusky and Tony Dang, while Justin Sauerbrey and Patrick Troy fell in a close match, 9-8.
In the second match of the day, Grand Valley proved to be better than Sacred Heart from top-to-bottom, as they knocked off the Pioneers, 9-0. All singles victories were recorded in straight sets. Brock Plangger and Alex Switzer blanked their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, in the fourth and fifth singles slots, respectively. The Lakers were equally as impressive in doubles action. Adam Sandusky and Tony Dang picked up an 8-2 win while Justin Sauerbrey and Patrick Troy downed their opponents, 8-1. Rounding out the doubles victories were Alex Switzer and Matt Globerson, who shutout their opponents, 8-0.
