ROCKFORD, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team completed its sweep in its opening weekend of GLIAC play with an 8-1 win against Findlay on Saturday evening at MVP Sportsplex.
GVSU begins the season with a 3-0 mark in league action, while improving to 4-1 on the season.
The Lakers began with a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Francis Bertrand and Bryan Hodges picked up an 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot, while Quinn Sylow and Andrew Darrell won, 8-6, in the No. 2 slot. Andrew Bole and Ben Esh-Nauta partnered to grab an 8-3 win in the No. 3 position.
Bertrand earned another win, defeating Djordje Ljubinjovic, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot. Doubles partner Hodges, won 6-0, 6-1, in the third spot. Darrell defeated Yannick Mohring, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 2 position.
The Lakers continue its winning ways with victories at the No. 5 position as Bole defeated Matt Smith, 6-0, 6-1. Esh-Nauta rounded out the with with a three-set victory, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
GVSU now prepares for its spring break trip to Orlando where it will face six opponents in a week. The Lakers face off with Olivet Nazerene to start the week on March 4 at 8 a.m.
