Laker Men Claim A 162-78 GLIAC Win Over Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Ind. - The No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team claimed a 162-78 victory over Indianapolis in GLIAC swimming & diving action Saturday afternoon. GVSU won 10 events en route to their sixth dual meet win of the year. The Lakers will now prepare for the GLIAC Championships Feb. 10-13 in Detroit, Mich.

The Lakers opened strong with a win in the 200 medley relay. Raphael Santos, Hans Hill Aaron Beebe and Aaron Renton touched in 1:35.29. Jeff Pauza then claimed the first of his two wins on the night when he touched the wall in 9:44.07. Derek Mead then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free. Mead touched in 1:45.13, followed by Jordan Schrotenboer (1:45.46) and Beebe (1:45.67). Matt Witkowski finished second in the 50 free (22.06), while Justin Pattermann finished first in the 200 IM (1:56.98). Evan Betts led a sweep on the 1-meter board for GVSU as he tallied a score of 317.35. Reece Bierhalter finished second with a six-dive total of 273.70.

Witkowski turned in a first-place finish in the 100 free (47.30), while Schrotenboer (52.69) and Beebe (53.93) led a 1-2 finish in the 100 back. Pauza won the 500 free (4:41.89), followed by Mead (4:48.20). Patrick VanDommelen notched a win on the 3-meter board with a score of 253.15), while Bierhalter finished second (244.45). Hans Hill picked up a win in the 100 breast (58.34) and the Lakers' 200 free relay team of Lanston Gordon, Pattermann, Pauza and Witkowski finished second (1:26.55).
