Houston, Tex. - Grand Valley State is in eighth place at the 2009 NCAA DII Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with 171 points. Wayne State is in first with 404.5 points heading into the fourth and final day of competition at the University of Houston.
Junior Evan Betts earned his second All-America honor at the 2009 Championships with his fourth-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 445.70. In addition, Reece Bierhalter earned an All-America award with his seventh-place finish (389.40), while Patrick VanDommelen turned in a 14th-place finish with 327.05 to earn All-America plaudits. Senior Evan Kobes finished eighth in the 100 backstroke (49.72) to earn All-America honors, while Jeremy Sall finished 20th (51.01) and Jordan Schrotenboer 30th (51.27). Aaron Beebe earned a pair of All-America honors on Thursday. Beebe finished 13th in the 200 butterfly (1:51.35) and 14th in the 500 free (4:33.33). Justin Pattermann finished 28th in the 200 butterfly prelims (1:54.44), while Jon Bardsley was 29th in the 500 free (4:38.39). Kyle Burgher touched 33rd in the 500 free (4:39.45) and Hans Hill was 17th in the 100 breaststroke (56.56).
GVSU's 800 Freestyle relay team finished fifth and shattered the school-record. Matt Witkowski, Jordan Schrotenboer, Jon Barsley and Kyle Burgher touched in a school-record time of 6:39.47 and all four earned All-America honors.
