Canton, Ohio - The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team used strong performances in five events to stay in trophy contention at the 2010 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio. GVSU enters the final day in fourth place with 249 points, just one point behind Wayne State's 250. Drury leads the way with 401 points and Incarnate Word is third with 314. The fourth and final day will begin Saturday (Mar. 13) with prelims.

Sophomore Aaron Beebe (Grand Haven, Mich.) entered the finals as the top seed with the best time in the morning prelim, but Drury's Jun Han Kim beat Beebe to the wall 1:45.16-1:46.33. Beebe broke his own school-record by nearly one second. Sophomore Raphael Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished third in the 100 backstroke (48.99), while Justin Pattermann (Elburn, Ill./East Kaneland) followed Beebe in 200 fly with a fifth-place finish (1:50.13). Senior Hans Hill (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) recorded a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (56.54). GVSU's 800 free relay team of Beebe, Jordan Schrotenboer (Holland, Mich.), Joe Sayre (Dexter, Mich.) and Matt Witkowski (South Lyon, Mich.) touched seventh in 6:45.27.

Individuals and teams that finish in the top eight earn all-america awards, while those participating in the consolation finals earn honorable mention all-america honors.
