Ashland, Ohio - Grand Valley State finished third at the 2007 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships with 576 points. Wayne State claimed the GLIAC title with 830 points, followed by Indianapolis' 581.50. The Lakers finished just 5.5 points behind the Greyhounds, despite swimming without All-GLIAC swimmer Evan Kobes, who was out with an injury.

The Laker opened the final day with a strong swim in the 1000 freestyle. Ryan Kraai finished seventh (10:06.73), Ross Perry eighth (10:06.96), Aaron Phillippe 11th (10:11.14) and Kyle Burgher 12th (10:16.60). GVSU scored 34 teams points in the event. Paul Tansey finished 13th in the 200 backstroke (2:03.11), while Ryan Whitsitt was 15th (2:06.34). Matt Witkowski finished ninth in the 100 freestyle (47.32).,p>

Justin Barkel met the NCAA B standard and finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.33, while Hans Hill was fourth (2:11.70. Collin Perry finished 10th in the 100 breast (2:15.67). Justin Vasquez led a four individual scoring event in the 200 butterfly. Vasquez touched in fifth place (1:56.37), while Phil Watkins was 10th (1:58.63), Dan Kimble 11th (1:59.17) and Kyle Barrons 12th (2:01.25).
 

 

GVSU concluded the 2007 Championships with a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay. Justin Vasquez, Justin Barkel, Dan Kimble and Matt Witkowski touched the wall in 3:08.43.
