Jenison, Mich. - Defending GLIAC Champion Grand Valley State scored a school record 834.5 points in the GLIAC Championship meet, but finished second to Wayne State's winning total of 900. Grand Valley State will next be in action March 11-14 at the NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas.
Freshman David Hayhow (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) opened the fourth and final day with a fifth-place finish in a school record and NCAA DII B cut time of 9:36.69. Kyle Burgher (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) finished 10th (9:54.55) and Tyler Kalinosky (Mattawan, Mich.) 14th (9:59.49). Jordan Schrotenboer (Holland, Mich.) set yet another school record and hit the NCAA DII A cut with his second-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:50.32). Jon Bardsley (Northville, Mich.) hit the B cut with his fifth-place finish (1:53.46), as did Evan Kobes (Holland, Mich.) in sixth (1:53.97). Jeff Pauza (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) finished 10th (1:55.69).
Matt Witkowski (South Lyon, Mich.) hit the NCAA DII B cut with his fourth-place finish in the 100 free (45.97), while Joe Sayre (Dexter, Mich.) also hit the B standard with his ninth-place finish (47.06). Hans Hill (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles) met the NCAA DII B cut (2:06.88) with his third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, as did Collin Perry (Rockford, Mich.) with his sixth-place finish (2:09.25). Jimmy Donahue (Milan, Mich.) touched in 2:10.89 and finished 10th, followed by Phillip Kaseska (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in 13th (2:13.53).

Aaron Beebe (Grand Haven, Mich) set a GVSU school record and hit the A cut with his third-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:51.31). Phil Watkins (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Central) hit the B cut in the 200 fly (1:52.97) with his fifth-place finish, while Justin Pattermann also hit the B standard when he finished 10th (1:53.58). GVSU closed the meet with its final school record in the 400 free relay. Bardsley, Schrotenboer, Kobes and Witkowski finished second, hit the A cut and touched in 3:03.04.
Grand Valley State set 13 school records, hit 14 NCAA DII A cuts and 24 NCAA DII B cuts in the finals.
