Holland, Mich. - Grand Valley State claimed a 199-92 victory over Hope College Friday night at the Holland Aquatic Center. The top-ranked Lakers won 15 events en route to the victory. The Laker men will complete the regular season portion of their schedule Saturday at Indianapolis.
The Lakers opened with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Jordan Schrotenboer, Hans Hill, Aaron Beebe and Matt Witkowski touched in 1:35.01. Jeff Pauza led a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle when he touched first in 9:43.44. David Hayhow finished second in a time of 9:55.04. Matt Witkowski finished first in the 200 free (1:43.45), while Schrotenboer claimed the win in the 50 back (24.75). Hill led a 1-2 finish in the 50 breast (26.49), followed by Chris Conner in second (27.30). Beebe led another 1-2 finish in the 100 fly when he touched the wall in 51.80. Justin Pattermann finished second in a time of 52.40.
Aaron Renton claimed a second-place finish in the 50 free (22.56), while Lantson Gordon was a close third (22.58). Witkowski led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 free (46.71), followed by Renton in second (49.31) and Blake Tindol in third (49.46). Schrotenboer picked up another victory in the 100 back (53.24), while Hill (57.75) and Conner (59.13) teamed up for a 1-2 finish in the 100 breast. Beebe led a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free (4:46.70). Derek Mead touched second (4:46.81) and Jon Bardsley third (4:52.58). Pattermann added a first-place finish in the 50 fly (24.17) and Schrotenboer chipped in a first in the 200 IM (1:59.48). Evan Betts claimed the win on the 3-meter board with a score of 309.85, while Reece Bierhalter (296.55) led a 1-2-3 sweep on the 1-meter board. GVSU closed the evening with a victory in the 200 free relay as Witkowski, Renton, Gordon and Pattermann touched first in 1:27.06.
