Detroit, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's swimming & diving team, ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA DII dual meet power rankings, claimed a 155-145 victory over Wayne State Saturday in GLIAC action. GVSU will host Findlay next Saturday (Jan. 16) at the GVSU Pool.

GVSU won seven events and used outstanding depth to claim the win. The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of Raphael Santos, Hans Hill, Aaron Beebe and Matt Witkowski touched first in a time of 1:32.94, while Jordan Schrotenboer Kurt VonEhr, Justin Pattermann and Derek Mead finished third (1:35.62). Beebe led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:47.15. Jeff Pauza touched second (9:50.09) and David Hayhow third (9:50.13). GVSU used its depth in the 200 free as Mead finished second (1:45.87). Schrotenboer touched third (1:46.01), Jon Bardsley fourth (1:1:47.49) and Joe Sayre fifth (1:48.26). Santos finishd first in the 100 backstroke (50.96), while Pauza (55.15), Paul Tansey (57.16) and Emir Ibrahimovic followed in third, fourth and fifth.
 

 

Hill touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.59, while Beebe added another first-place finish when he touched the wall in 1:52.26 in the 200 fly. Pattermann was second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.19. Witkowski was second in the 50 free (21.60), while Santos was second in the 200 back (1:52.28) and Hill was second in the 200 breast (2:07.35). GVSU showed its depth in the 500 free as Hayhow touched second (4:43.36), Pauza third (4:46.53) and Mead fourth (4:54.81). Pattermann led a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly (50.64), while Beebe was second (51.03). Pattermann then added a first-place finish in the 200 IM (1:55.02). The 400 free relay team of Schrotenboer, Mead, Pauza and Witkowski finished second (3:10.42). Reece Bierhalter finished second on the 1-meter board (276.55), while Patrick Van Dommelen was second on the 3-meter board (265.65).
