Freshman Matt Malloure was named the GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week as he won his first collegiate tournament as he took first place in the Northern Michigan University Golf Invitational. Malloure fired a two-round score of 144 to lead the Lakers to a first place finish. Matt shot a 73 on Saturday, followed by a 71 on Sunday.

Grand Valley State posted a 590 (297, 293) to finish ahead of second place Findlay (606) by 16 strokes.

The Lakers will travel to Big Rapids for the Ferris State Bulldog Invitational on Sept. 16.
