May 17, 2006

Daniels, WV - Grand Valley State University's Steve Larson fired an opening round 73 (+3) Tuesday at the 2006 NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championship in Daniels, WV. at The Resort at Glade Springs - Cobb Course. Larson is playing as an individual at the NCAA Championship (72 holes).

Larson started play on the back nine and opened with five straight pars. Steve birdied the par 4 number 15 and then notched his sixth par on number 16. However, two bogeys followed and he was +1 at the turn. Following a par on number one, Larson bogeyed holes number two and three and was +3 after 12 holes. Steve regrouped and came back with back-to-back birdies on holes four and five and stood at +1. A double bogey on number six and a bogey on eight put Larson at +4, but he finished the day out in fine fashion with a birdie on number nine to get his opening round total back to +3.
