BAY CITY, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday that Grand Valley State's Don Underwood has been named the GLIAC Men's Golf "Coach of the Year." In addition, four Lakers were named to all-GLIAC teams, headlined by Tyler Hering's First Team All-GLIAC selection.

Underwood earned the award after he led Grand Valley State to its third conference title in 2008-09. The title was the Lakers' second in the past three years and came after GVSU set a GLIAC 54-hole record with a score of 863 (-1) at the conference championship. This is the fourth time that Underwood has earned the award, with the latest coming during the 2004-05 season.

The all-GLIAC teams are decided by the golfers' average score over the course of the season. Hering was named to the All-GLIAC First Team after posting an average of 71.6 through 18 holes. Matt Malloure, Matt Johnson and Ben Brooks all earned Second Team All-GLIAC selections. Malloure posted an average score of 71.9, Johnson finished at 72.6 and Brooks compiled an average of 73.1
