GVSU's Meadows Golf Course Set To Host NCAA DII Midwest/South Central Men's Golf Regional

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State has been selected as one of 10 teams in the Midwest Region and one of 80 teams nationally to compete in the regional competition of the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships May 4-6 it was announced by the NCAA Natioanl Golf Committee. Regional competitions will be conducted May 4-6 and the Lakers' home course, the Meadows Golf Course, on GVSU's campus is one four sites nationally that will host a NCAA DII Super Regional.

Ten teams from the Midwest Region and 10 teams from the South Central Regional will compete at the Meadows, with the top five teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) advancing to the finals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington. The finals will be hosted by Western Washington University.

Grand Valley State received an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships with its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title. The Lakers, seeded third in the Midwest Region, have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 10 years under head coach Don Underwood. The Lakers will open tournament play Monday, May 4 with tee times ranging from 7:30 a.m. through 8:10 a.m. on hole #10.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional tournament and to have that regional at the Meadows creates even more excitement for our team," said Laker head coach Don Underwood.

Joining Grand Valley State in the Midwest Region are Indianapolis, Ferris State, Bellarmine, Wayne State, Findlay, Drury, Wisconsin-Parkside, Northern Kentucky and Aashland. The South Central Region will consist of DII teams from Central Oklahoma, Washburn, St. Edward's, Northeastern State, Central Missouri, Abilene Christian, St. Mary's, Texas A&M-Commerce, Missouri Southern State and Dallas Baptist.
