Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State shot a 297 in the third round but it wasn't enough to catch Northwood as the Lakers took second place in the GLIAC Championships over the weekend at The Meadows in Allendale. GVSU entered the day with a 13 stroke deficit to Northwood but made up nine strokes with the best team score of the tournament on Sunday. All five Lakers finished in the top 11 and Kevin Kremer finished second individually with scores of 77-77-71 for a total of 225 strokes. Kremer's 71 in the final round to lead all individuals on Sunday.
Casey Smits finished fifth overall after firing scores of 75-79-74 for a total of 228 in the 54 hole tournament. Glenn Desgranges shot 230 for an eighth place finish while Brad Franz and Bill Schmidt tied for 11th with a total of 232.
Grand Valley State will play at the Oakland Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, to finish the fall season.
