Grand Valley State's men's golf team tied for sixth place at the Saginaw Valley State Invitational, firing a two-round score of 618, 17-strokes behind first-place Ferris State. The Lakers shot a 309 both days.
GVSU was led by freshman Tony Mango, who finished in fourth place overall with a 147 (72, 75). Freshman Josh Orler tied for 20th after shooting a 77 on both days. Sophomore Kyle Murphy tied for 47th with a 159 (81, 78), freshman Phil Marsh tallied a 160 (79, 81), and senior Bill Schmidt posted a 167 (88, 79).
Sophomore Steve Larson posted a 157 (80, 77), tying for 37th place as an individual, while sophomore Chris Johnson shot a 160 (80, 80).
The Lakers will play in the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 10-11 in Coldwater, Mich.
