Final Results

Noblesville, Ind. - Grand Valley State finished in a tie for seventh place at the NCAA Division II Preview in Noblesville, Ind., which concluded on Tuesday (Sept. 29). The Lakers recorded a team score of 632 and placed a pair of golfers in the top-20.

GVSU followed up an opening round 314 with a 318 on Tuesday and finished at +56, tied with Sonoma State. Central Missouri took home the team trophy with a 610 (+34), outdistancing the field by a dozen strokes. Bellarmine (622, +46), Indianapolis (624, +48), Central Oklahoma (625, +49), and Washburn (626, +50) were within four strokes off each other and rounded out the top five schools. 18 teams competed in the tournament.

The Lakers were led by senior Anthony Provenzola, who tied for 10th place with a 155 (+11). Provenzola shot consecutive rounds of 77-78 for his score. He was followed by sophomore Mike Basinski, who tied for 19th place after totaling rounds of 78-79 for a 157 (+13).

Three sophomores finished the scoring for the Lakers. Ben Brooks notched a score of 159 (+15), tying for 32nd place after rounds of 76-83. Nick Gunthorpe tied for 46th place after firing rounds of 83-79 for a 162 (+18). Travis Shooks tied for 58th after notching a 166 (+22) with rounds of 84-82.

GVSU competes next at the GLIAC Championship in Marquette, Mich. this weekend (Oct. 3-4).
