Grand Valley State's "A' team won the GVSU Fall Invitational, finishing with a two-day score of 601. The Lakers "B" team finished in second place with a score of 610. GVSU will play in the NCAA Regional Qualifier #1 in South Coldwater, Mich. on Sept. 26-27.
GVSU's "B" was in second place after day one of the invitational, but the "A" team shot a 289 on day two to come from being tied for seventh to win. Freshman Tony Mango shot a 75 and 68 for a total of 143 to win the individual title by a six-stroke margin.
Mango led the "A" team, while freshman Josh Orler tied for fourth place with a 151 (78, 73). Junior Jacob Hamilton finished tied for sixth with a 152 (79, 73), sophomore Kyle Murphy tied for 20th place with a 155 (80, 75), and sophomore Steve Larson finished tied for 48th place with a two-day score of 161 (83, 78).
Leading the way for Grand Valley's "B" team, was sophomore Chris Johnson who finished in third place overall after shooting a 75 (150) both days. Junior Justin Mack tied for ninth place with a 153 (78, 75), while senior Bill Schmidt (77, 77) and freshman Matt Johnson (74, 80) both tallied a 154, tying them for 16th place. Freshman Phil Marsh tied for 37th place with a 158 (79, 79).
Senior Darin Arnett shot a 160 (81, 79) as an individual for the Lakers, finishing tied for 45th place.
