Grand Valley State's "Blue" team captured the GVSU Fall Invitational firing a two-round score of 595 on Monday. The Laker Blue team edged out the Laker Black team (596) by one stroke. Grand Valley State will play in the Great Lakes Fall Invitational on Sept. 24-25 in South Haven, Mich.
Going into the final round, the Laker Black team was on top of the leaderboard as they posted a 297 on Sunday. The Laker Black team trailed by three strokes going into Monday as they tallied a 300 on Sunday. The Laker Black team shot a 295 on Monday, while the Laker Blue team had a 299.
Saginaw Valley State finished in third place with a 602, while Wayne State and Ashland tied for fourth with a 608. Findlay and Ferris tied for sixth posting a 611 and Wisconsin-Parkside and Northwood tied for eighth place with a 626. Northern Michigan fired a 628 for 10th place, while St. Joseph's College had a 644 for 11th place.
Senior Kyle Murphy led the way for the Laker Black team with a 147 (75, 72) for a fourth place finish. Junior Josh Orler tied for fifth place with a 148 (74, 74) and senior Steve Larson tied for seventh place as he shot a 149 (76, 73). Junior Tony Mango fired a 151 (75, 76), tying him for 16th place and freshman Matt Malloure tied for 29th place with a 155 (78, 77).
Sophomore Matt Johnson claimed the individual title, firing a 143 (73, 70) and led the way for the Laker Black team. Junior Mark Pawlowski tied for seventh place claiming a 149 (74, 75), while redshirt freshman Danny Vaughan posted a 150 (74, 76), which tied him for 11th. Freshman Nick Blake tallied a 155 (76, 79) and freshman Jamie Clark shot a 165 (87, 78).
