Grand Valley State men's golf team finished in fourth place in its season opener at the Ferris State Invitational Friday night. The Lakers tallied a two round score of 602, while Ferris State won with a 585. Grand Valley State will host the GVSU Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Meadows Golf Course.
Freshman Josh Orler tied for fourth place, finishing first for the Lakers with a two round score of 145 (75, 70). Sophomore Kyle Murphy tied for 15th place with a 150 (77, 73), and freshman Phil Marsh posted a 153 (73, 80), tying for 24th place. Freshman Tony Mango tied for 29th with a 154 (78, 76) and senior Bill Schmidt rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with a 159 (78, 81).
Junior Jacob Hamilton tied for fourth place with a 145 (76, 69), playing as an individual, while sophomore Chris Johnson tied for 13th with a 149 (73, 76) and sophomore Steve Larson posted a 151 (73, 78) as an individual.
