Grand Valley State's Men's Golf Team fired an opening day 297 to claim the lead at the Northern Michigan Invitational in Marquette, Mich. on Saturday. Tony Mango led GVSU and sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 71. The Lakers hold an eight stroke lead over host Northern Michigan and Northwood. The tournament will wrap up play tomorrow.
Matt Malloure and Kyle Murphy ranked two and three among the Lakers shooting a 73 and a 74 respectively. Josh Orler rounded out GVSU's scoring with a 79. GVSU leads Northern Michigan and Northwood by eight strokes (297-305). Findlay sits in fourth with a 307 and Wayne State placed fifth with a 310 after day one. The tournament will wrap up tomorrow beginning at 8 am.
