Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State opened its men's golf season with a convincing 13-stroke victory at the Northern Michigan Invitational at the Wawonowin Country Club. The Lakers shot 291 on Saturday and 292 on Sunday for a 583 total, 13 shots ahead of second place Northwood and 16 shots better than third place Findlay.

GVSU junior Kevin Kremer earned medalist honors for the tournament with a 36-hole score of 146. Kremer earned the win by winning a playoff against Northwood's Erick Hayes who tallied the same score. Kevin carded a first round 71 and fired a 75 on Sunday.

Bill Schmidt and Casey Smits tied for fifth as individuals with scores of 148. Jake Hamilton and Brad Franz finished out the scoring for GVSU with totals of 150 and 151, respectively.

The Lakers continue play on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 9-10) at an invitational hosted by the University of Detroit.
