Final Results

Duncan, Okla. - Grand Valley State took home a 13th place finish at the 2010 Midwest/South Central Men's Regional Tournament on Wednesday (May 5) in Duncan, Okla. The Lakers totaled a team score of 922 (+58) at The Territory Golf and Country Club, as sophomore Nick Gunthorpe was GVSU's top finisher, placing seventh in the tournament.

Grand Valley State shot 297 on the opening day, followed by scores of 315 and 310, as the conditions became tougher throughout the week. Central Missouri won the tournament with a total of 904 (+40), finishing one stroke ahead of Wayne State (905, +41). Ferris State (908, +44), Bellarmine (909, +45), and the host school Cameron (910, +46) rounded out the top five schools. Those five teams will advance to the Division II Men's Golf Championship in Noblesville, Ind. on May 18-21.

For the Lakers, Gunthorpe was terrific all week, as the sophomore put together three strong rounds of play over the three days. After an opening round 70, he shot 75 on Tuesday, and finished with a 78 for a total score of 223 (+7). He tied for seventh place with four other golfers and was just four strokes out of first place. Central Missouri's Justin Yoder was the tournament medalist with a score of 219 (+3). Finishing just outside the top-30 for GVSU was Matt Malloure. The senior played well throughout the tournament, using rounds of 76-79-74 for a score of 229 (+13), as he tied for 31st place.

Two sophomores and a freshman rounded out the five Laker golfers. Sophomore Travis Shooks placed in a tie for 60th with a 235 (+19), as he notched rounds of 72-84-79 for his tally, while freshman Chase Olsen came in a tie for 74th place. Olsen used three-day scores of 81-80-79 for his score of 240 (+24). Another sophomore, Mike Basinski, tied for 84th place, as he shot 79-81-83 for a 243 (+27).
