Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State started slowly in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Bolivar, Missouri, as they shot 314 to fall to eighth after the first day of competition. GVSU entered the tournament ranked first in the region, but find themselves with an 18 stroke deficit after the first round of 18 holes. The tournament is 54 holes, with another round of 18 being played on Tuesday and Wednesday at Silo Ridge Country Club.
Kevin Kremer led GVSU with a 74, which tied for eighth individually.Casey Smits shot a 77 to post the second low round for GVSU, while Bill Schmidt posted an 80. GVSU started slowly last weekend at the Hillsdale Invitational with a 320 in the first round but rebounded to shoot a 297 on the second day to end up second in the 36-hole tournament.
Ferris State leads the regional after scoring a 296 on Monday, but are followed closely by Findlay who shot 297.
